Federal investigation and private practice
John brings a rare regulatory background to private practice. Before devoting his full attention to the firm he spent fifteen years with the U.S. Department of Labor's Employee Benefits Security Administration under the Atlanta Regional Office as an Investigator, Senior Investigator, and then as Supervisory Investigator in EBSA’s Miami District Office until his departure in 2025. During that time, John conducted and supervised civil and criminal investigations of ERISA covered retirement and health plans; led a certified Major Case ESOP investigation whose work product contributed to a global settlement with an institutional fiduciary; served as co-lead case agent on multi-agency healthcare-fraud investigations alongside the FBI, DCIS, FDA-OCI, VA-OIG and Army-CID; served as the Atlanta Regional Office’s liaison for EBSA's distressed-plan-sponsor (REACT) program; and testified multiple times in federal court. John also received the Secretary of Labor's Honor Award several times and multiple Exceptional Achievement Awards. That experience gives the firm unusual depth in fiduciary-duty, plan-asset, regulatory, and valuation questions that arise in closely held business transactions, governance, and litigation.
Real estate and title
In real estate, John is an authorized agent for Old Republic Title Insurance Group, Inc. underwritten by Old Republic National Title Insurance Company, and has personally handled transactions ranging from single family residences to eight figure commercial tower projects. John has also worked with non-standard real estate projects involving such features as community redevelopment agencies, rezoning, and severable use rights, to name a few.
Education
A graduate of the University of Florida, John received both a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration and a Bachelor of Science in Food Science and Human Nutrition (2004). He also received a Master of Agribusiness from the University of Florida Graduate School (2005), where he focused on financial analysis and stochastic forecasting.
Mediation and public service
John went on to earn his Juris Doctor from Barry University's Dwayne O. Andreas School of Law (2009). During law school he became a Florida Supreme Court Certified County Mediator and completed a judicial externship with the Ninth Judicial Circuit's Dispute Resolution Department, where he mediated more than 90 county and small-claims cases. He served the indigent of Seminole County at the Seminole County Bar Association Legal Aid Society as a Barry University Fellow sponsored by The Florida Bar Foundation, and he served as president of the student section of the Real Property, Probate and Trust Law group.
A commitment to fairness
John has always held a firm belief in public service and general principles of fairness.
